Olexandr, thank you for an excellent advise, I haven't thought about this. I prefer working in console with mcedit - built-in MC editor, so does anyone have a .syntax file for it? I'm thinking of creating one, but have to be sure I'm going to invent a bicycle.

Spell check (syntax highlighting) can be done in your editor which you use for FDF files. Here you have a file for NEdit on Linux http://www.uam.es/departamentos/ciencias/fismateriac/siesta/ For Windows I use Notepad++ for both .fdf and .out files If anybody needs, I can give the syntax highlighting for it. I can't imagine working with fdf without highlighting anymore.
