Not everyone has a desire to rebuild his kernel; therefore, RedHat lets
you decide whether you want a copy of the kernel sources during the
installation. If you deselect that package, then you won't have the
sources necessary for recompiling. See

for the packages you need. Use rpm to install (from your CD or from
the Internet) all of the kernel sources and headers if you don't already
have them.

There won't be a "config" file. config is one of the targets in a
makefile. There will probably be a makefile or a Makefile with a
line that starts with
config:
