Just call me goober.... Since I was seeing this odd behaviour on all my
MP3 files, I didn't bother to try and check the files were good. Not one
of them was over 1K in size! I didn't try playing any wav files because
xanim is flaking out on me and I forgot sox was installed. Once I tried
that and it said premature EOF for every wav I tried, I realized that a
file system was messed up while I shuffled things around couple weeks 
ago. Oh well, at least I know it works now.
