hi eric,
the problem is that it's finding the older gtk before it's finding the newer one.
your linux distribution probably included a version of gtk. distribution
inclusions like this are typically found in /usr/lib.
rm -r /usr/lib/*gtk* should be good enough.
now, since it won't find gtk libs in /usr/lib it'll roll over to
/usr/local/lib, where you installed it. (* if you have /usr/local/lib
in your /etc/ld.so.conf, which you certainly should *)
gtk versions are most definitely offered in rpm format, but i'd advise you
to avoid rpms entirely.
