Sound Question...

Anybody have any suggestions for good sound manipulation software for
linux (most likely X)?  I've used Cool Edit Pro (Under Win 98) and would
like to come up with something comparable.. 

Any suggestions are appreciated... I haven't come up with much of
anything...
