Out of curiousity, what software does everyone use for encoding MP3's,
and does it work well?

The reason I ask is I've tried encoding lots of MP3's using bladeenc
or 8hz-mp3. Whenever I play them under mpg123, though, they show up as
"stereo" as opposed to "joint stereo," and the audio is usually
poorer, especially for non-music. I'm assuming joint stereo MP3's are
higher quality? If so, how can I make them?
