Answering my own question regarding shadow NIS passwords and RH 5.2

A week or so ago I asked if anyone had any experience trying to get a
RedHat 5.2 system to use shadowed NIS passwords (where the actual password
is stored in a passwd.adjunct) file.

Here is the answer:  the reason it doesn't work is passwd.adjunct is not
implemented in glibc 2.0, and pam_pwdb.so is hopelessly broken.

Solution:  use glibc 2.1 instead.
