Make sure you have XAnim installed (http://xanim.va.pubnix.com/home.html,
RPMS should be on redhat contrib sites) because I think Aktion is just a
front-end to it. XAnim is pretty good for most applications, though some
of the latest closed-codecs haven't been included, most notably the
Sorenson QuickTime stuff - Apple apparently won't allow it at the moment.
I like XAnim, though it always seems to screw up my mixer settings
after I run it, and I can never get them fixed without completely
rebooting. For example, I grabbed the second Star Wars trailer and
tried playing it. The first time I tried I needed to turn the volume
on my speakers completely up to even hear it. The second I used
-Av100, but this screwed up the bass severely and the sound was
distorted. Running aumix with my old mixer settings didn't solve the
problem; playing MP3's and such after doing anything with XAnim sounds
horrible.
Any ideas about what might be causing this? It's a major pain in the
ass to have to reboot whenever I want to watch a video.
