Ok, the problem as I see it is that you can only have 8
partitions. One of the first four must be a extended
parition, so if you want to use ALL the disk space on
the device, it must all be defined in the first four partitions
or it will lay unused. In the extended parition, you
can assign four partitions within it (thus logically
leaving only 7 partitions you can stuff data onto).
Does that make sense?
