Hi everyone. Haven't posted to the list for a while, but I've really run
into a snafu that's messed me up for a few days now. I've checked the
archives, dejanews, and windowmaker's home page. I bought accelx, and
installed it. I decided that I don't like Englightenment, and I wanted to
run WindowMaker. I got on windowmaker's FTP site, and downloaded all of
the libraries available. I also downloaded the slackware X libraries and
installed them since I had done a hard drive install lacking any X
support. I installed wmaker, and after having to do plenty of finagling to
get libjpeg installed the correct way, the thing installs without
complaints. I login, and run wmaker.inst in my home dir, and now whenever
i "startx" I get "wmaker: libXext.so.6 -- unable to load library" as the
error message. So, I check my ld.so.conf naturally, and see that it does
contain /usr/X11R6/lib, which is where the symlink libXext.so.6 points to
libXext.so.6.4. Furthermore, typing ldconfig -v does output libXext.so.6
correctly. However, if I do a ldd `which wmaker`, (the which just gets the
path, it's as if I had done a ldd /full/path/to/wmaker), It tells me that
libXext.so.6 is not found, and one other library that escapes me, as I am
in windows NT right now for lack of a pretty pop/smtp/imap/filter e-mail
client (but hopefully I'll get X working the way I like it soon). If
anyone can help walk me through how to troubleshoot these linking problems,
please help me. I think the problem may stem from some sort of
libc5/libc6/ELF version mismatch type of a thingy.....i'm not very sure
tho, because I'm a newbie when it comes to things not just
./configure;make;make install ing correctly.
Any help is horribly appreciated. Free 10MB MFM drive to the person who
successfully helps me through this one :P
Thanks,
George Winn
