Lilo Problems

I have 2 partitions. One linux and one windows. The only way that I can get
lilo to come up is a boot diskete, then it takes 5-10 minutes for linux to
load. If I don't put in the boot diskete, then my machine auto goes to
windows w/o a lilo prompt. I can't remeber to well if I put it on the mbr or
not but is there a way that I can put it in manually? Thanks,
