What is tell ing you this? the BIOS? If it's a Linux distribution,
which one and at what point does it show up?

What kind of computer is it? Do you know who makes the motherboard?
Do you know what kind of IDE chipset it uses?
You gave us a lot of information, but not the right kind of
information to figure out what's going wrong. . .
