Here's a quick printout in fdisk:

The kernel is on hda5.  It can't be past 1024 cylinders.  I tried
copying the kernel around and removing all but the working kernel
from lilo.conf, but I still get the same message.  Why
would anything just randomly change like that?

I don't see how you guys deal with this stuff everyday. :-/
