I added System.map-<kernel version> files to go with the new kernels.
I tried changing the system map file that the System.map link
pointed to, i.e. System.map -> System.map-2.2.5-15 changed to
System.map -> System.map-2.3.50. But that was after I got
the error message. Usually I just copy bzImage and System.map
to /boot/vmlinuz-<version> and /boot/System.map-<version>.
Here's my /boot directory:
2.2.5.backup boot.b vmlinuz@
System.map@ bzImage vmlinuz-2.2.12
System.map-2.2.12 chain.b vmlinuz-2.2.14
System.map-2.2.14 map vmlinuz-2.2.5-15
System.map-2.2.5-15 module-info@ vmlinuz-2.2.5-15BOOT
System.map-2.2.5-15BOOT module-info-2.2.5-15 vmlinuz-2.2.5-15old
System.map-2.2.5-15old module-info-2.2.5-15smp vmlinuz-2.2.5-15smp
System.map-2.2.5-15smp os2_d.b vmlinuz-2.3.49
System.map-2.3.49 vmlinux-2.2.5-15* vmlinuz-2.3.50
System.map-2.3.50 vmlinux-2.2.5-15BOOT*
boot.0300 vmlinux-2.2.5-15smp*
