 As mentioned before, you should always keep your hardware clock to GMT,
and set your clock settings in linux to GMT/Chicago. If you do this, 
 you will never� (see below) have to fiddle with time changes.

1. Some feeble distros (redhat inspired) will put a hwclock setting in 
/etc/rc.d/init.d/halt that gets set each time you shutdown.
I usually comment this out because im too lazy to figure out how
it is supposed to really work, if it even does.
