Phil,

Good idea but didn't Full Code Press do that sort of thing last year?
http://www.fullcodepress.com/. Maybe we need a 2008 version..

Subject: [SiliconBeach] Another idea for start-up camp

Just to start a new thread as I'm going off on a tangent to the
original but my suggestion for the next start-up camp would be to
focus on working on a project that would benefit the community;

I've long felt the biggest problem with the Australian start-up
community is very low visibility of angel investors/VCs. In the US,
there are enough options and enough networking events where its not
that hard to scout around and find places that might be willing to
give you money. In Australia, it seems to be there seems to be very
much a clique of people who know the right people and breaking into
that circle is not nearly as easy as it is in the US.

What I'd love to see as a Start-up camp project is to create a Silicon
Beach version of something like http://angelsoft.net/

Essentially, a social network that links Australian investors/angels
with entrepreneurs and emerging companies and makes it easier for
entrepreneurs to pitch their businesses and for the angels to find
investment opportunities.

There is definitely a business model there with this, just not a very
big one, but it would be enough to sustain the project after camp...
