Subject: [SiliconBeach] [Announce] This week in startups - Sydney

Hi there,

Leo Perez & myself are bringing the This Week in Startups concept to Sydney
(Actually a cross between This Week in Venture Capital & This Week in
Startups).

The idea is to present the stories of people who are starting and funding
new businesses.

On http://twistsydney.com you will find..

Episode 1: With Niki Scevak from Startmate <http://www.startmate.com.au>

Niki is the administrator and one of the driving forces behind Startmate,
Sydney's new Y-Combinator/Techstars style startup incubator. Niki clearly
articulates both the story of his own startup homethinking.com, but also
what Startmate is looking for in applications. There were some technical
issues with this episode, but we've published it as should probably be
essential viewing for anyone who either wants to apply for Startmate, or
wants to know what its about.

Episode 2: With Sheng Yeo from OrionVM

Sheng is one of the founders OrionVM, a cloud computing startup based in
Sydney. He is typical of the new generation of entrepreneurs, very smart,
articulate, and has an excellent handle on his chosen space. His is an
interesting story of how four friends organised themselves around a vision,
allocated equity, and executed in space dominated by large players. He is
also looking for an advisor/angel who understands this market space.

And later this week..

Episode 3: With Matt Cameron from Corporate Catapult
<http://www.corporatecatapult.com/>

Matt is a Kiwi who is chasing his dream. He left his rather impressive
corporate role with Salesforce.com and relocated himself to San Francisco to
launch his startup Corporate Catapult <http://www.corporatecatapult.com/> .
He talks of his motivation, the status of his startups (in stealth-mode),
how he plans to launch, and how to get connected in Silicon Valley.

We are doing this is on a volunteer basis and are keen for any feedback or
from people who want to be involved - just reply to this address if your
interested.

rgds,

- matt.
