Interesting article on CNET about the New York City Economic Development Council's attempt to build NY as a "Digital City"
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-20027567-36.html#ixzz1CMU9w83O An interesting part of the article is how the NYCEDC is trying to build tech into industries such as fashion and finance where the city has a traditional strength. This was one of the original aims of the Digital Sydney project I was involved in during my 18 months with the NSW state government. Another instructive aspect of the CNET piece is that the New Yorkers have decided they have to diversify out of the banking industry. Here in Australia, both the Federal and NSW governments still have a 1980s view of the financial industry and desperately believe that Sydney can become an "international financial centre".
