As a Kiwi, the prospect of paying taxes on worldwide income doesn't quite eclipse the fun of being compelled to vote :-[ . Hence I'll keep my NZ citizenship for now but for those who want to live for good on that sun-burnt continent, there are a couple of mechanisms: - get NZ citizenship then trot across the pond (though they've tightened up the rules) - go for a holiday working visa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_Holidays_in_Australia and be VERY friendly towards potential co-founders - get things like APEC Business visa allowing longer duration visits - try and set up shell companies with nominee directors ... there's some technical details in that the management/locus has to be based in Australia so expect a few AGM type meeting trips every year. However, there are transaction costs involved so if you're trying for a pure IP play (just registering copyrights, etc) there are simpler mechanisms (eg PersPropSec Act which comes into force 1st Oct). The strengths of Australia are: - fairly robust IP regime, even a FreeTradeAgreement with US (for what its worth) - transparent business environment, electronic Signatures are recognised - the dollar is not about to nose-dive unless China manufactory hits an economic hiccup As Elias points out, there are always (legal) hacks so it's a matter of figuring out what you want to accomplish (eg why dual listing?) then figuring out the business structure.
