Great to see this conversation get going. Not to plug our own events (I realize that's not what this list is for) but if you and anyone else who has an opinion on what's been said so far wants to hear more and contribute to this discussion, please come to our event next week and join the debate.
This is especially pertinent since there seems to be a push to lock down superfunds even more than they are now (http://blogs.unsw.edu.au/ knowledgetoday/blog/2011/10/super_apra/), when setting aside even 1% of these would increase the size of the local VC pool by at least 20x (http://prezi.com/lilfpwcbl3-d/money-markets-talent/). Apparently this is a widely discussed topic at the Venture Captial Committee that advises the government on its VC policies. The event is Meet the Entrepreneur - State of Play: What are the myths and realities about the VC industry in Australia, how does it compare to the rest of the world, and does the quality of entrepreneurship and innovation in Australia "stack up"? It's a moderated panel discussion with a Q&A period afterwards and hosted networking - Wednesday Nov 2 from 6-9 PM at the Ernst & Young Sydney office. Why go? 1. It's free (but please register!!) 2. There will be food and drink (again, free) 3. It'll take your mind off the not-fast-enough horse you bet on in the Melbourne Cup the day before 4. Who knows - you may just contribute to changing the world, or at least this corner of it Panellists will be: Melissa Widner - General Partner at SeaPoint Ventures Gary Zamel - Managing Director of Latitude Investments Pty Ltd Adrian Bunter – Director at Posse, Director at Hall Capital Strategies Pty Ltd Benjamin Ranck – CEO, All Over Geo (fishburner) Peter Gray – Senior Manager, Australian Technology Showcase For more information and to register, please go to: http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=xgmrj9dab&oeidk=a07e4kwm60y9a8b002b Feel free to contact the CIE if you have any questions: +61 2 9385-9730 Cheers, Linda On Oct 25, 10:35 pm, Adam Brimo <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi All, > > While I've been working on my startup over the past year, I've been > researching government support and initiatives for new businesses.
