Hello Everyone,
I am very pleased to announce that shortly before Christmas I was informed
that my startup Immortal Outdoors had been selected to participate in the
third round of startups in the Start-Up Chile program. Also, at about the
same time, the website finally went live for the first time!

*A bit about Immortal Outdoors...*
Immortal Outdoors has a 'simple' goal - to build the worlds first ever
comprehensive map and guidebook to all outdoor recreation.

The idea of mapping something so vast and extensive as 'everything of
interest in the natural world' has not been attempted as far as I know, and
when it is finally realised, it will genuinely change the way we interact
with the world.

It is only the very beginning now though, and working with a web
development company to produce the MVP is not optimal, but a necessary
first step to gain the traction I really needed to get things moving - and
quite probably was a crucial part of being accepted in to the Start-Up
Chile program. You can see the recently launched website at
http://www.ImmortalOutdoors.com It is actually still pre-launch, as several
key features are missing, and there are still a few bugs which I want
fixed. Unfortunately, my developers won't be resuming work on it until the
23rd of January, so those bugs are stuck there until then.

Nonetheless, the principle is hopefully clear enough already - it is a map
of outdoor recreation which members can continue to grow and edit. Please,
register, post in the forum, edit articles, create new articles - and let
me know what you think.

*About Start-Up Chile*
I have been surprised by how few people had heard of this program in my
numerous discussions at the Silicon Beach Drinks, and other recent events,
so this is as good a time as any to introduce everyone to this amazing
program...

Start-Up Chile is an initiative created by the Chilean Government to
attract world class entrepreneurs to Chile. They pay you $20,000,000 CLP
(about $40k AUD) through business expense re-imbursment over the course of
six months, during which you have to operate out of Chile, and you must
attend networking functions, and present a few talks.

That's all. No equity. No need to permanently moving your business to
Chile, or surprise fees or anything like that. Just turn up and participate
in the Chilean Entrepreneurial networking scene, and you get $40k for your
business. It is brilliant. Oh, and you get office space and a mentor too,
plus the usual support of a vibrant active startup scene.

Another nice aspect to the program, is that the selection process is
probably quite different to what most incubators use. Because the Chilean
government isn't looking for profits from equity, they don't have quite so
much emphasis on market share, income models and all that stuff. That still
matters of course, but their focus is much more on how qualified you are as
an entrepreneur, how realistic your business proposal is, and how connected
you are to other entrepreneurs.

I think my strengths in my application had a lot more to do with being
active in the Silicon Beach community, my global network or people related
to outdoor recreation, and my success with my other online business than it
has to do with how much money Immortal Outdoors is likely to make me. In
any case, the precise 'marking scheme' is available on their website.

There will be more rounds taken in throughout 2012 (another 3 I think?) -
so keep an eye out for it.

PS. I recorded this video in one day and edited the next with the
assistance of my Dad, as part of my Start-Up Chile application. I will be
re-newing it as soon as the website reaches Public Launch state, so I can
spend some more time tidying it up! But as it is, again, it doesn its job:
