I read that and been following it with interest. Its pretty amazing. I think Kickstarter turned over $50mil last year.
I was going over some of their successful projects today, and came across one of their earlier ones - the Diaspora project, the facebook "killer" or "alternative". It raised $200k and received a lot of publicity. I remember reading this blog post by Ross Hill back in May 2010 (http://rosshill.com.au/right-conditions/) and thinking the same thing as the author. The big winner out of the Diaspora funding was actually Kickstarter. It showed the crowd funding model under the right conditions could flourish and become game changing. Looks like that time has come.
