Or maybe it was a call to Melbourne people to attack Sydney, given that Melbourne is #22 and Sydney is #21?
Anyway, this was just an excuse to send a quick introduction email, given the "no lurkers" rule: I'm Yanir, and I'm currently in the final stages of my PhD at Monash. Broadly speaking, my research is in the areas of text mining and user modelling. Before I started my PhD, I worked in Israel (#5 on the list) as a software engineer for some big companies (if you're really interested in my employment history, check out my LinkedIn profile: http://www.linkedin.com/in/yanirseroussi). Now that I'm about to finish, I'd like to learn more about what's happening in the Australian tech industry outside academia. Assuming that I can stay in Australia after graduating, I would definitely like to work for a local (i.e., Melbourne!) startup or start my own thing, depending on the opportunities that present themselves.
