Nick, Consider an executive coach. $250-$400 per hour. The experienced person you seek values their time. Many CEOs pay for a 3rd party independent coach. I did for 3 years. In this way you can safely work through all your issues without fear of board reprisal.
Alternatively find an executive networking group of tech executives. I have had limited success with this, but some people I know have found it valuable. Vistage is one example.
