The cumulative result is that the rich are insulated from what the rest go through; in headlines language, we are rich and we can do what we want.
Ah, yes, the gated community syndrome....but I thought the insulation of the rich, whether before the French Revolution, the rulers of Egypt, or in the superbungalows of the Gulf, is an old, old process, starting with maintaining distance and culminating in deification (on page 3, nowadays.) In every field, "exclusive" (read exclusion of the Others) is the name of the privilege game.
