It's different inside India and outside.

Indeed it is. My new booklet took several weeks, here in Bangalore. And the US visa is in one booklet, the reference in the new booklet is to yet another one, so I have to take along a sheaf of these things when I travel. Very bulky.

It's different inside India and outside. My passport needs an extra book. In Chennai it is expected to take some time - several weeks, which I can't afford. When I contacted our partners in Canada, they had a quick word with the local High Commission, and they were told the whole thing would be over in a day or two.

My experience was pretty much the same when I did it in '04 in the Indian consulate at San Francisco.

Subject: [silk] passport renewals...

i renewed my passport (indian) last week at the local high commission,
and it was done in a single day (filled in the forms in the morning,
was asked to come back on the same day in the afternoon to collect
it).  I wasnt getting special treatment, it appears to be the norm.

I was pretty surprised by the efficiency of the process....considering
how complicated all these procedures used to be..... Is it the same
everywhere else?
