as for bringing new people into a conversation - the purpose of a scientific journal is surely to bring new _ideas_, not new people for the sake of it. many journals do have double-blind peer review, in which case the question of bringing "new people" couldn't even be raised. i wouldn't know if _social text_ uses that form of review. -rishab
