Hello! Having lurked sufficiently, and recognizing, barely in time, that this is (was?) introduction-month, here goes:
Like every self-respecting engineer who graduated this century, I served time at Infosys (for Finacle, the banking product) before moving to eLitmus, the little start-up I'm with now, a couple of years ago. Work involves plenty of 'business' stuff, but I continue to be a geek first and foremost. I live in Bangalore, and am headed to the University of Chicago this fall to, inter alia, study business management, hibernate, accumulate large amounts of high-interest debt, and generally further the cause of world commerce with suchlike other activities. While at Infosys, I dabbled in C, Java and Python on several unixes, but have now discovered peace and joy in Ruby. Kubuntu Intrepid with KDE 4.2 runs on both my desktop and my laptop. I have done a stage1 Gentoo install and karma-whored on Slashdot, both when I was younger and naiver. I enjoy running and swimming. I have run a 52km ultra-marathon, and have grandiose plans of doing a triathlon next year. I listen mainly to rock and rock-and-roll: from the Velvet Underground and Allman Brothers to Steely Dan and Dave Mathews, and perhaps only a little beyond. I have watched a pitiful 86 of the IMDB top-250 - a situation I intend fully to remedy this year. Needless to say, good to be here! Thanks for reading; I will now promptly get back to lurking. Cheers, Venkat
