Bah. Almost everybody in "the developing world" gets himself an engineering / science degree rather than an arts degree because it’s a passport to a stable job. You'd find more engineers in everything from the BJP Youth Wing and the MNS all the way to the CPI(M) youth wing, the naxals, Maoists etc .. for much the same reason.
