Am reading 'Don't think of an elephant' by Lakoff on framing ideas - and so these thinking aloud notes on reading this blog.
The author has assumed the following framing - bullock cart India, airplane India, scooter India. It assumes a few things: 1. Different Indias at different stages of growth. 2. A certain aspirational quality. 3. An incompatibility. The rest of the experience flows looked through this lens. Could there be another frame? That of say, an unorganised service sector serving an organised one? An employee - employer relationship? Then just as the employee has certain responsibilities, the employer has too. Where is the growth plan? Where is the training plan? The 'airplane' India takes pride in its professionalism. Why not extend that notion? There is an assumption in the first framing that the person providing domestic help will remain just that - the incompatibility comes in the way of aspiration, as in bullock carts can't fly. But the second frame allows for this movement - what is the long term plan for the person providing domestic help? What additional skills will the person gain on the job? As an aside, usually I dislike corporatese, but here it seems to have potential. All nascent thoughts - this book has been fun so far. Wondering about other frames now... Sruthi
