I thought colloidal meant 'smallest particle'. dee

    Rusty,
Nano refers to a certain size.
Separate atoms or ions of silver are well in the nano range.
Colloidal means a state of association or bunching of atoms or ions where
these clusters are suspended in a fluid (water) If the clusters are large
enough they will sink to the bottom of the container. If they are small enough
they "float" and take a long time to settle.
The popular wisdom is that small colloidal clusters are more effective.
