Absolutely.  It all just depends on the era in which you live. Once upon a 
time...majority of what was considerd the civilized world worshipped gods such 
as Zeus and his pantheon..which s actually, in a way carried over to modern 
man.  Twere they they went to worship daily. Look how many corporations have 
adoped these entities and products as namesakes.  Nike, Atlas, Athena, Mercury, 
etc. etc.

My thought is that all religions may start out one way, but they morph to match 
the culture they exist in. Otherwise they'd quickly die and vanish.
