My understanding about chocolate in dogs is that some are impacted more than others AND there is a cummulative effect issue at hand. I think it was something along the lines that dogs cannot process and eliminate the chocolate and so small exposure will likely not harm but repeated and often could. But I know of dogs who have consumed entire bags of chocolate (say Hershey's Kisses or some such) and been fine in the long run.
Vit D in large amounts is supposedly toxic for dogs too. Too much of anything tends to be bad for you. Human, dog, cat, mouse ...
