Fred Replies: Let the sludge build up JD! It is the ions of silver that made it to the negative electrode, to gain an electron and to become elemental silver! Under better conditions, they would make a shiny silver plating on the electrode. They are far less effective then the ions you are trying to make and more apt to produce Argyria over time. My feeling on the HVAC process is that you just blast these particles of silver back into solution as fast as they form (although smaller crystals now) and thus see no sludge or dark tint to the Cs.
