There may be other problems that cause this, but a white tongue can be a sign of
anemia.  In dogs and cats it is often a sign of worms which cause anemia in 
them.

Also a fungus, often referred to as thrush can make the tongue white, but in 
that
case it is a coating, and a lack of color in the tissue.

Check back a few days.  I posted a web site that lists which foods are alkaline
and which are acid, or do a search for "alkaline acid ash".
