Barb, Sugar, and the sugar in honey, inhibit microbe growth. However raw natural, (non-heat treated) have a microbe killing ability, and high penetration of tissue.
The active substance in this honey is hydrogen peroxide, which is generated in small amounts over a long period of time. Manuka (a small bush which grows wild in New Zealand and some parts of Australia, and get covered in small white flowers) derived honey has another active substance which increases its anti-microbial activity, has been found to resolve long term infection, which nothing else would, although I suspect that CS was not amongst the treatments tried.
