Terri,
I have noticed that putting CS in the drinking water is OK for normal
stuff but not good enough for really heavy infections. I think the
unexciting results are due to that the animals backwash when they drink
from a communal bowl. Maybe they cross-infect each other.  
You could use a small syringe to squirt 1 ml to 5 ml CS directly into
each animals mouth. A few times per day. Expect happy drama.
I don't have any experience with the 500ppm CS, only the 5ppm to 20ppm
as  mentioned on this list.
