Damien,
         If you are referring to my earlier post, the point wasn't
that I was "against" anything.  I only detailed how this extraneous
circuitry, which has nothing to do with producing CS, will not
provide the battery or $$ savings it would appear at first glance. 
Ken (Ode Coyote) and I off-list discussed his particular
applicatiion where this additional power cost would NOT preclude
using such a device and would be quite practical.

        To everyone that thinks this is a way to save batteries I
have one question for you:

        If this type of trickery is valid then why don't ALL
flashlights require a single 1.5vdc cell?
