While I agree that making your own generator is a good way to go, so is buying 
a unit pre-made.  For one thing, you don't need to mess with wires, soldering 
(in some cases), and traveling about to get all the pieces to put it together.  
Also, and I am assuming here, but I would think that most generators come with 
lots of written info as well as fairly accurate instructions.  There are many 
benefits to making your own generator as well as many benefits to purchasing a 
pre-made one, and people should go with the option that they feel most 
comfortable with.  My main concern is that they just do it, one way or the 
other, so they can start enjoying the same benefits that you and I and most 
others on the list have been taking advantage of for a number of years  :)
