I was unable to quit when I was smoking a pack a day of Marlboro reds, but on the advice of a friend I switched to an additive-free brand (American Spirit, etc.) for a few weeks and then quit cold turkey. I was miserable for a day and a half, and then it became bearable. I've been smoke-free for 5.5 years. -- John A.
