Virus! Beware Clinton Cartoon
  E-Mail

By Cathryn Conroy, Netscape News Editor
It's billed as a cartoon of former U.S.
  President Bill Clinton playing the
saxophone that you can use as a screen
saver, but it's really a computer virus that
will delete your files and slow your
network connections. If you receive an
e-mail message with the subject line: "bill
  caricature," DO NOT download the
executable attachment that comes with it.
Delete the e-mail. Called "MyLife.b," this
Internet worm is rated a medium risk
because of its ability to lure users to open
it and the damage it can cause if it is
  downloaded, April Goostree, virus
  research manager at McAfee.com Corp.
told Reuters. The virus is spread by
Microsoft Outlook, but users of all types
of e-mail programs can receive it.

  Netscape offers you up-to-date
  computer security information.

The body of the e-mail text message tries
to mislead users into thinking the
attachment is safe. It says: "No Viruse
Found" (with the word "virus" misspelled
  as "Viruse") and "MCAFEE.COM."
Don't be fooled! Anti-virus messages are
never delivered this way. According to
Reuters, once the attachment is opened,
the worm drops a copy of itself in the
  computer's system folder. If the
computer is rebooted between the hours
of 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., it will try to delete
all files on the C, D, E, and F drives and
certain files in the Windows system
directory. And if that isn't bad enough,
the worm will also slow down your
e-mail and Internet connection. It is not
yet known from where the virus
originated, but it has affected users in 29
countries. Hardest hit are the United
  States, Australia, and Great Britain.

  Netscape has dozens of fabulous
screen savers on a myriad of
  subjects--from tropical beach scenes
  to beautiful models--that you can
download free of charge. And they
  are guaranteed to be virus-free!
