Yup, I wound my own. Found an online source for 14 gauge magnet wire and bought about 400 feet of it for 35 bucks (I think...). I actually made up my coil form from disks cut from styrene sheets from the hobby store and a short piece of PVC water pipe. Now that I've done it, I can honestly say it's probably not worth the bother compared to using the scavenged VHS tape reel they suggest using. It also is definitely necessary to cut out some plywood disks to sandwich the coil form between while you're winding it. Otherwise the sides of the form start to spread. Ugly. As for a testing, a regular 1/4" ID flat washer hops an inch or two, and a #8 flat washer jumps a foot, when you place it just off the center of the coil. I'm beginning to believe it's working like it's supposed to, but would like to hear from somebody else. Did you find a capacitor of the appropriate value and voltage, and of a size that will fit in the case? Probably I should hit one of the other mailing lists where folks talk about this more. Any suggestions folks? Be well, Mike D.
