Hi Matthew, Commercial operations sterilize the compost beds with steam to kill the lower order fungi that are the main bain of shrooms; so it might not be a problem there. But most soil is dependent on the microorganisms and other creatures that live in it to break down the rock dust, compost, etc. that feeds the plants.
I have no idea how the silver itself would affect the mycelium metabolism. If they are eukaryotic it doubt it will be a problem. I suspect the silver content of those mushrooms that do collect silver to do so in nanogram amounts/cap. What they are very high in is fungicides. I have grown mushrooms in the past, Stropharia Cubenses. Contamination of the culture with Aspergillis and Penicillins before fruiting begins is the most difficult part of the process. If I were to do It again, I would try to filter the air in the space down to spore size. If this is so, mushroom beds could be thought of as a recycling process for CS/EIS batches gone bad, provided the brew doesn't kill them outright. Have you or anybody on the List any information on this possibility? Thanks for all your valuable input.
