Hi Boone, I do not have access to that book. Maybe you could describe the method. May I ask a few questions please?
Does your method have a way to control current? Are you using distilled water? Are you adding salt or anything else while "brewing" What size rods are you using? How much water per "brew"? If you are not using current control and not using pure distilled water then the brew time should be in the order of a few minutes per 250ml (8oz) .
