If your bird is a parakeet (Budgie), then the growths are most likely Scaly Face, which is caused by mites. There are specific treatments for that, usually it is an oil that suffocates the bugs. I don`t think CS would do them in, unless it starves them or something like that. CS is great against Giardia in birds, it cured a baby cockatiel I had a few years ago. The vet had diagnosed the bird as having giardiasis by examining a poo sample microscopically, and she said "but they aren`t moving!" referring to the bugs. I had already treated the bird with CS that morning. The bird was perfectly normal 2 days later with nothing but CS. Marshalee
