In fact, there is no specific reason -- but like David commented, it 
seems to me that GPLv3 provides somewhat better protection of free software.

What I am most worried about are the possible compatibility problems (in 
his mail from last week, John pointed out some potential issues related 
to distributing SEC with GPLv2 licensed Perl modules).

In order to avoid those problems, SEC can stay under GPLv2 - I think 
that v2 protects free software quite well. However, if there are no 
legal issues using and distributing SEC with GPLv2 licensed software, 
upgrading to v3 is a good idea IMHO.

I am just wondering whether there is someone in this list who has a good 
understanding of the whole GPLv2/v3 question, and can clarify whether 
there will be any possible issues when moving to v3?
