About xsane, I did not try to scan a blank page but it seems that when the lock button is on, the scanner return a blank page. On Windows with the Canon's software it works in the same way so there is none problem with that.
I verified in the check-list and the Canon Lide 210 works fine with a recent sane version. Moreover when the lock button is off there is none problem with Simple Scan.
