word text files are just regular text files with the word creator codes. 
Any plain text editor can open them (simple text if under 32k, or 
TexEdit, or BBEdit, or anything at all that can read plain text).

Bear in mind, that is assuming you SAVE the file in word as TEXT (if you 
save as word format, all bets are off)
