As I stated before there IS a bug in the latest version of SIMS. If I have EITHER the backup listed in the client host list OR have the
3-rivers.com = 3-rivers.com.smtp
line in the router of the secondary then my secondary fails the open relay test that ORDB.org is using and they are getting their mail through using the foriegnaccount@foreigndomain@mydomain hack. My secondary will forward the message to the primary and then the primary will relay the message out to them.
This is strange, given that you seemed to have the problem resolved last time.
I have tested an otherwise very clean pair of SIMS machines for this and can't get them to relay using any relay test trick I know of, including all of those tried by ORDB last time they probed me.
Let's think about this logically. The setting on your backup cannot change the behavior of your primary, so 2 possibilities exist:
1. The secondary is offering the relay test message in some way that is different from how any relay tester would try directly, and so is finding a hole in the primary that the relay tester cannot find itself. Perhaps something in the router?
2. The primary is treating the secondary as special, and so allowing the relay.
And that is my point how is my secondary supposed to work if I have to remove it from the client host list and remove the .smtp line from the router to close this hole?It can't.
However, you should note that a lot of other people manage to have this sort of setup without having open relays. That should provide you hope for a fix without Stalker acting (which I regret to admit seems a dim hope.)
I have done multiple test to confirm this and I am not going to do another because then my server gets blacklisted again.Did you crank the log levels all the way up on the primary when testing? If so, the log will show everything you need to know to figure out what exactly is happening without more tests.
If not, it is probably worthwhile to do one more test with the log catching everything. If you don't want to have a blacklist do the testing on a known-open system, do it yourself or use the MAPS or abuse.net testers.
