"other mailservers" in this case would include Communigate, I assume? (I'm the loyal customer type - i've been using SIMS so long that I'd feel really guilty if I paid for some other program. Besides, if Communigate is anything near as good as SIMS as far as stability and features, it'll be well worth it.)On Friday, February 7, 2003, at 10:18 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:I can block port 25 outgoing for the locals and make them use our SIMS server.... but since they're legal users of our server, is there anything I can do beside paying close attention to detect if some genius tries to do outgoing spam through us?With SIMS your options of this are limited. With other mailservers you can set maximum number of connections, or even maximum numbers of total outbound emails. You can also set maximal BCCs, although spam software desn't seem to use that anymore, or you can force return addresses to be local to your domain.
even so, none of this will take the place of a draconian terms of service agreement and due diligence.Right.
The TOS should mandate HUGE penalties for spamming (say, $500/spam) and full cooperation with any victims of spam in states where it is illegal.
I was hoping for something a little more auto-configurable than a good pair of eyes - especially since I'm advising on a potential ISP setup in Africa (home of the infamous Nigerian Spam).
If Communigate will do a fair bit of the above, that's what I'll spec.
